Things to do before baking hamburger buns

  • How to proof yeast?

Yeast is a leavener that is added to dough to help it rise while baking. Whatever form your yeast takes- active dry yeast, instant (or rapid-rise) yeast, or fresh yeast it needs to multiply and grow in a friendly environment. Before baking with active dry yeast or fresh yeast, you must first test it to ensure that the yeast is alive.

In a ½ cup of water and warm it to 100 – 110 deg F then, add a fat pinch of sugar to feed the yeast. Now mix the yeast and set it aside. You should see a lot of small bubbles after 5-10 minutes. Continue with the recipe. If you don’t see foamy bubbles, the yeast has gone bad. It’s time to start over with fresh yeast! If you leave yeast to sit after it has been proofed, it will lose its vitality.

  • How rise the hamburger bun?

A finely kneaded dough will be soft and little sticky. Now transfer this dough to an oiled bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Keep it in a warm place for 1-2 hours and wait for the dough to rise. In case the climate is too cold then place the dough inside the oven that is preheated to 200 deg F. This will let the dough rise.

  • How to make an Egg wash?

Egg wash is necessary to give your hamburger buns a nice golden color and to make the sesame seeds adhere to it. Simply combine one egg yolk and one tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush the burger buns with the mixture, then sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  • How to make eggless hamburger buns?

To make Homemade Hamburger Buns Eggless, always use high-quality yeast. Do not dissolve yeast in hot milk/water; otherwise, your yeast will not work. If you are a vegetarian, you can use regular milk or butter; however, for the vegan Homemade Hamburger Buns Eggless recipe, I used almond milk and vegan butter. Homemade Eggless Hamburger Buns can be stored for 3-4 days. Kneading is required for this recipe to create gluten in your dough, which makes your buns soft and fluffy.

Ingredients
2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water (110° to 115°)
1/3 cup vegetable oil 1/4 cup sugar
1 large egg, room temperature
1 teaspoon salt
3 to 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

All-purpose flour and whole wheat flour – This combination produces extremely soft buns with a delicious whole wheat flavor.

Active dry yeast is responsible for the puffiness of these buns. Warm water – Aim for temperatures between 105 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit to best activate the yeast.

Sugar – It feeds the yeast and imparts a lightly sweet flavor to the hamburger buns.

Butter – You’ll want your butter to be at room temperature, so prepare ahead of time! If the temperature is too low or too high – melted – the hamburger buns will not be as light and fluffy.

An egg – It puffs up the buns, adds moisture and richness, and makes them super soft and tender. If you don’t have any eggs on hand, or if you prefer not to use them, 3 tablespoons water can be substituted. The buns will be less puffy, but they will still taste delicious.

Sea salt – To bring out the flavors!
