The basic type of cake mould that every professional baker choose is an aluminum round cake mould or square cake mould. These two cake moulds are a common staple in every baker’s pantry no matter if they are a beginner or a professional.

Why aluminum cake mould?

Aluminum is the best metal used for making bakeware and is one of the most commonly used bakeware materials. It is a lightweight and extremely durable material that produces cakes that are lighter and delicately crusted. Typically cake moulds made of aluminum are the traditional cake moulds that come in round and square shapes. They come in a variety of sizes, different depths, and flat bottoms making it ideal to bake cakes, trim them, and layer. Additionally, its super ability to conduct heat allows even heating of your dessert. It is very affordable and is an excellent choice for all bakers.

Aluminum cake mould comes in two shapes:

Round aluminum cake mould: This shape is the most commonly used among bakers for its ability to distribute heat evenly. Round cakes are very common and you don’t have to stress over trimming them to perfect shape like the square and rectangle cakes. Hence they are time-saving, easy to layer and decorate.

Square aluminum cake mould: This is also must-have bakeware in your pantry. A square aluminum cake mould can be used for baking brownies and anything that you wish to transform the look by decorating. Aluminum cake mould being the good conductor of heat bakes cake evenly even in the corners.

How to Prepare Aluminum Cake Mould:

The key to successful baking is to prepare the aluminum cake mould before preparing the batter. Preparing the cake mould is the first step to every baking recipe. Always prepare your Sunbrand aluminum cake mould before you mix the ingredients into a batter. Preparing the cake mould differs depending on the type of the recipe. But generally can use anything from oil, butter, clarified butter, shortening or pan spray, and so on.

Parchment paper or wax paper:

Parchment paper can be easily cut into a piece and lined at the bottom of the aluminum cake mould. This is very ideal for round and square-shaped aluminum mould. Trace the shape of the cake mould by using the bottom as a stencil and cut it into a piece. Additionally, you can leave 1 or 2 inches extra so that it will be easy to grab the paper and when unmolding the cake.

Wax paper can be used for a more delicate type of cake recipe. Make sure the bottom is always lightly greased before placing the parchment or wax paper.

Greasing and Flouring:

Greasing and flouring an aluminum cake mould is very important unless the recipe does not call for an ungreased cake mould. This process makes it easy to unmould the cake after baking. You can grease the cake mould using anything from butter, clarified butter, or vegetable oil.

Firstly, using the pastry brush line the bottom and sides of the aluminum cake mould with butter. If you have placed the parchment paper or wax paper then grease another layer on the paper. Now, flour the pan. Flouring the cake mould is as equally important as greasing. Otherwise, the slippery surface from the shortening will prevent the cake from clinging to the sides of the pan and rising properly. Now, put a small amount of flour on the bottom and sides of the cake mould. Let it get completely covered with flour then, invert the cake mould and tap out any excess flour.

How to fill Aluminum cake moulds?

The rule of thumb is to fill the cake mould three-fourth to a half of the way to avoid overfilling it. This leaves enough room for the cake to rise. The cake rises during the baking process, if the battery is full then it will spill over the sides of the cake mould. If the cake mould is not filled with batter sufficiently then, then the cake will be flat.

If you are making layers then we advise you to weigh when filling the cake moul so that each filled mould weighs the same. If you don’t have a kitchen scale then, use a toothpick to check the degree in each mould using a toothpick.

How to remove cakes from aluminum cake mould?

Once the baking is done, the cake should be allowed to cool in the mould for 10-15 minutes. This helps the cake from breaking and then, allowed it cool on the wire rack. To remove the cake from the cake mould run a spatula or knife around the inside edges of the cake mould to loosen the cake completely. To unmould the cake place the wire rack on the top of the cake and invert the cake mould and rack together.

In case the cake sticks to the bottom of the cake mould then, slide a spatula underneath to loosen it from the mould. Be cautious when doing this as this might tear or break the cake apart.
